5 Tips for Baby-Proofing Your Hotel Room

The first thing you want to do, especially when you're arriving at a hotel, is put your luggage in front of the door. The hotel locks are great for keeping people out, but difficult for keeping little people in. They can reach those handles and it's super easy for them to open the doors. So stack up your luggage in front of them so they don't go wandering down the halls.

The other thing you'll want to bring, and deal with first, is some painter's tape. It's fantastic because it can cover outlets, help you to keep doors and drawers secured, and it's not going to leave a sticky residue, so you won't get in trouble with the hotel.

If you want, throw a few outlet covers in your bag. They don't take up much space, and they're super helpful, and then you won't need to worry about any outlets.

The other thing that you might not think to take are some rubber bands. There are very long curtains in most hotel rooms and little ones can very easily crawl over and pull themselves up. Use your rubber band to pull up the curtains off the floor so little hands can't reach them.

You'll also want to have a fun night light. That way you can keep the corner of the room, where the baby is sleeping, illuminated. Hotel lighting is not ideal for a crib, so take a nightlight with you.

You also want to make sure there are no other dangers in your hotel room, so crawl around. Get on the floor and see if there's anything else your baby could pull off of a shelf or accidentally pick up and swallow. You may even want to move the phone so you don't have any unexpected call charges.

You also want to think about yourself during this process, because you will be stuck in the hotel room as well. And if the baby's sleeping, you might not be comfortable turning on the TV. So bring something to keep yourself occupied as well, and enjoy your trip.
