Baby Care Basics: Allergies

Well, seasonal allergies- the things like pollen and grass, won't kick in for a year or two. Other types of environmental allergies can show up in babies as young as six months old. Here are three clues that your baby may be allergic: Constant sneezing and sniffling. 

 

He has no fever, you've been wiping his nose for weeks and the mucus is clear, not yellow or green. He rubs his nose a lot with his hands; Red and itchy eyes and skin, and babies in allergies sometimes triggers a skin reaction before affecting the nose and lungs. 

 

A family history of allergies. Babies whose parents have allergies are more likely to be allergic, but they may react to different triggers than you. It may be helpful to try to reduce the number of allergens in your home. 

 

Keep your windows closed on high pollen days and dust and vacuum regularly. If a pet seems to be the trigger, you may have to consider finding it a new home. 

 

You may also want to invest in an air purifier with a happy filter. If your child continues to show symptoms of allergies, be sure to talk to your doctor about testing another treatments.
