Solid Advice for Parents

So in terms of introducing solids  there are questions often asked by new parents: What should we be doing and when should we should be doing it. So parents should introduce solids around six months of age. And clearly it's inappropriate to give one time for every child. They have different developmental track, but around six months of age and at that time the most important thing is that the first foods are rich in iron. And parents can check on this by looking labeling or taking advice if necessary.

We want those first foods to be rich in higher then after that new foods can be introduced every one to two days. You don't have to wait five to ten days as we were told previously. And it's important also that all children receive potentially allergenic foods or foods that most people recognize as potentially having an allergic effect in their first year of life, but never before four months of age.

So I'm talking about foods like eggs seafood peanut butter dairy foods that can cause allergy and we now believe that by introducing these foods in the first year of life, but as I said never before four months, we can protect your infant against getting food allergy. So those recommendations have changed in recent years. So that's something that parents might want to explore with their health care professional to get more advice. But all food should be introduced in an appropriate texture obviously, but no food should be ruled out in the first year or two years of life.
