How Can I Manage Labor Pains Without Medication?

Not every woman is able to handle the pain of labor, but the more prepared you are, the better you do. The more skills, the more tools that you have learned to deal with that pain, will help you get through it without medication.

When a woman takes a childbirth preparation class, she learns a lot of skills. Some of those are position changes, moving around, pressure against painful spots, distraction, which would be: focusing on a site that is external to herself, looking at a site across the room looking and focusing, breathing techniques, such as Lamaze childbirth method, will all help distract from the pains of labor.

If you can relax the tension out of you, you will feel less pain. The more you tense up, the more pain you will experience. So, a lot of the techniques are used to help the woman stay relaxed and to keep the pain from overtaking her in a negative fashion. Pain is a good thing, in a way. If you poke your finger into a hot flame, the pain tells you to pull your finger out. But, labor pain you can't escape by pulling away from it.

You have to learn how to relax through it and just let it roll through you and then the contraction is done, then you totally relax your body. Most of the techniques that we help most women with are focused on that relaxation and focus that helps them to tolerate the pain until it's gone.
