How to Deal with Pregnancy Hemorrhoids (6 Steps)

Hemorrhoids during pregnancy can be painful. Don't let hemorrhoids be a pain in the butt. Follow these simple steps to deal with this common pregnancy problem.

Warning: If hemorrhoids cause pain, bleed frequently, or don't improve with home remedies, see a doctor.

Step 1: Eat healthy foods

Eat healthy, high-fiber foods throughout the day, such as vegetables, whole grains, bran cereal, and fruits.

Step 2: Drink water

The most common cause of hemorrhoids is constipation. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to help prevent it.

Step 3: Exercise

Exercise 30 minutes a day to help with your digestion. Yoga, swimming, and walking will ease constipation. Consult a physician before attempting any exercise plan.

Step 4: Soak in warm bath

Soak for 15 to 20 minutes in warm water to cover your buttocks and hips.

Tip: Avoid soap, scented bath salts, and essential oils or you could worsen the inflammation.

Step 5: Apply cold treatment

Apply an ice pack to the irritated area to reduce swelling and discomfort.

Step 6: Apply moist towelette

Clean the affected area with unscented, non-alcohol, moist towelettes. Use them instead of toilet paper.

Step 7: Ask doctor about creams

Talk to your doctor about topical creams that are safe to use.
