How Do I Cope With a Difficult or Traumatic Birth?

After birth mom come and see us because they saw that birth experience has been traumatic and this can sometimes actually be perceived thing as in the way you have seen a delivery is not quite what you expected.

It may not have been that there was a complication but you can just be traumatic in the way it occurred for you. You may have expected a straightforward normal delivery and required instrumental delivery. So if you feel your experience has not been what you wanted it to be and it's affecting your mood is important that you speak to somebody.

It's important if you come to ask for debrief or a discussion before you leave hospital to go through things, because later on things may not seem as fresh in your mind. If you want to ask questions this also helps to stop any misconceptions which may continue to worry you or make you feel bad about what happened and we can just set things straight with you, so that it can start to help you enjoy living life with your new baby.

However if you go at home and you feel you haven't had a chance to talk to anybody it's important that you contact us at the hospital again to have a birth reflection discussion and we have a service when we support women through that to talk through what they feel went wrong for them and it helps you again to start to move on and to think about your birth differently.
