Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) is a common bleeding disorder affecting women. VWD results from a deficiency or defect in the body's ability to procedure a certain protein that helps blood clot. 

VWD occurs in men and women equally; however, women are more likely to notice the symptoms because of heavy or abnormal bleeding during their mensrual periods and after childbirth.
