Changes and Adaptation during Pregnancy (2nd Trimester)

A full term pregnancy goes through three trimesters:

- The first occurs between weeks 1 and 13.

- The second between weeks 14 and 26.

- The final lap from week 27 till birth.

Changes to be observed during the second trimester:

1 - Weight gain is experienced more rapidly.

2 - Swelling of the ankles and the feet is quite common.

3 - One might experience dizziness and fatigue.

4 - Pain and discomfort in the pelvic area.

5 - The gums can become very sensitive and a bit of bleeding is also common.

Measures mothers should take to ease the process:

1 - It is recommended that women start wearing their maternity clothes as they are likely to add weight.

2 - Keeping your feet up and avoiding standing for too long can help ease the puffiness of the feet.

3 - Plenty of small meals and fluids are highly recommended throughout the day to help keep the dizziness away.

4 - It is recommended that women engage in pelvic floor exercises to help strengthen the pelvic muscles.

5 - Dental care is paramount and use of a soft brush can help ease the irritation to the sensitive gums.
