Diarrhea | When to Worry | Parents

Watch as Parents Magazine shows when to worry about diarrhea! It's normal for babies' poop to be soft or even to occur up to eight times per day. However, there are some indicators that your child is actually suffering from newborn diarrhea. If your baby suddenly starts to poop watery stool much more than usual, she may have the runs. Baby diarrhea can be caused by a change in diet, antibiotic, a food allergy or a stomach virus. To combat diarrhea in infants, give plenty of liquids. A pediatric electrolyte solution along with a normal feeding or breastfeeding schedule can help. If she eats solids, continue as usual, but cut back on fruit and juices. Yogurt with live cultures provides good bacteria for fighting diarrhea symptoms. Watch out for dehydration, as babies can lose a lot of fluid quickly. Crying without tears, fewer wet diapers, or a slight sinking of the soft spot mean you should call your doctor right away.
