What is Happening at 21 Weeks Pregnant?

What happens in the 21th week of pregnancy? Your baby’s eyelids have finished forming this week, and he/she is very busy moving around and swallowing amniotic fluid. As your baby swallows amniotic fluid, the digestive tract is continuing to mature.

Your baby in the 21th week of pregnancy:

- Your baby is about the size of the placenta

- Mothers may start to feel the baby's hiccups

- As your baby grows larger, these movements will feel stronger

- All babies are different so some hiccup multiple times a day, while others will do it only once in awhile

- Your baby's height is 10.51 inches and weighs about 12.70 ounces

- The tiny buds on your little ones tongue are developed and he may taste the food you eat through amniotic fluid

- This allows your baby to practice swallowing and digesting

- Your little ones cheerfully plays around the amniotic fluid

- The intestines begin to contract and relax

- Your baby's bone marrow spaces are developed and starts making red blood cells

- The blood circulation is now completely functional

- The umbilical cord continues to grow and thicken

- Your little ones eyelids and eyebrows are fully developed by now

- The fingernails and toenails are covered by the baby's fingers

- The fats continue to form to keep your baby warm

- If you're having a baby girl her vaginal canal starts forming

- Your little one is waking and sleeping in regular intervals

- If you are having multiples, the babies are kicking each other as they move around, but don't worry as they are well protected by the membrane separating them

Your body in the 21th week of pregnancy:

If you place your fingers about a half inch above your belly button, you may be able to feel your uterus. The vast majority of people you encounter will realize you are expecting. If you notice that your lower legs and feet swell towards the end of the day, try to schedule a couple of times a day when you can sit and rest.

Not everybody gets stretch marks, but if you do develop them they will probably start becoming noticeable when you're around 22 to 24 weeks pregnant. They may appear on your stomach, breasts and thighs. At first they look red, then fade to a silvery grey. Your breasts may start to leak a little pre-milk – this is normal.
